Hamburg – Sharp Energy Solutions Europe expands PV business in Chile, along with multi-million US Dollar of JCM subsidies for PV panels.
In addition to the supply of PV panels Sharp is also active in the project business worldwide, working alongside partners on the development of solar power plants. Sharp offers unique opportunities to investors and owners for joint PV projects of various kinds.
As a Japanese company, Sharp can give access to attractive subsidy schemes from the Japanese Government for PV power plants in multiple countries around the world.
The subsidy scheme is called Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and was initiated by the Japanese government. It’s a project-based crediting programm initiated by the Government of Japan to facilitate the diffusion of low-carbon technologies and reduction of GHG emission in 17 different countries. The Japanese Government provides the subsidy for the PV installation and in return they share part of the carbon credits generated by the project, whereby one carbon credit represents the right to emit one ton of CO2.
Sharp has already successfully completed many projects in Mexico, Thailand, Mongolia, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos and Palau and multiple projects are in progress in Vietnam, Ethiopia and Chile within the JCM programm and is responsible for JCM application, registration and module supply.
Within the JCM scheme approximately 40% of the PV panels in a Chilean PV project can be subsidised.
In addition to its products and access to JCM subsidies, Sharp also brings over 60 years of experience in the photovoltaic business, especially in technical planning, and has extensive expertise in the area of free-field and commercial & industrial PV system project development.
By working together, Sharp partners will benefit from the advantages that Sharp, as a module supplier, can contribute to partnerships: direct access to production capacity and tremendous JCM experience getting along with up to approximately 40% subsidies for PV panels are just two examples.
The goal of Sharp is to develop partnership-based photovoltaic projects in Chile benefiting from JCM subsidies. The collaboration includes “JCM”-eligible projects for any ground-mounted PV installation. A particular focus is on independent system owners active in Chile, with planned PV investments who have the finance and payback scheme (e.g. the stabilized pricing scheme applicable for PMGD or corporate PPA) ready.
As part of the collaboration, Sharp guides the partner through the whole JCM process and makes sure the project owner will benefit from the subsidies in the amount of approximately 40% for PV panels.
Peter Thiele, President of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe: “Our strategic direction envisions massive expansion of the project business in Chile. Cooperating with our partners, Sharp will take care of the JCM process and plan and build the PV project together with our local partner. Our ideal project candidate is a local Chilean entity owning land planning to invest into a PV system up to several tens MW. By working together, our partners will benefit from the advantages that we, as module supplier, can contribute to a partnership in Chile: direct access to production capacity and benefiting from generous JCM subsidies.”
