Sharp launches 540W bifacial double glass PV panel

Hamburg – Sharp today announces the launch of a new 540W bifacial half-cut cell monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) panel – the NB-JD540. The new module is designed for commercial and utility scale free-field installations, providing customers with lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and higher return on investment. Depending on the on-site conditions, the bifacial-technology can increase the panel power output up to 25%.

High Power Output

The NB-JD540 has a module efficiency of 20.9% and is equipped with of 144 M10 wafer size half-cells. The module is designed for a system voltage up to 1,500 V, and is printed with white reflectors in the gaps between the cells on the rear glass to increase light absorption on the front side.

A low temperature coefficient of -0.349%/°C for the power output ensures high performance at elevated environmental temperature, which is increasing in importance due to climate change and the resulting rise in temperatures.

High product reliability

A high-performance encapsulation foil with a combination of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) and PEO (polyolefins) is used to prevent potential-induced degradation (PID) affecting the rear side of bifacial modules.

The bifacial module NB-JD540 features 10 busbar technology using round ribbons which increases the power gain from each cell and makes them less sensitive to microcracks, offering higher module reliability.

Like all Sharp half-cell modules, the NB-JD540 has three small junction boxes instead of just one, each fitted with one bypass diode. These junction boxes are transferring less heat to the cells above and in turn boost the longevity of the panels and the overall performance of the system.

The safety, quality and durability of the panel has been recognised with IEC seals (IEC61215 and IEC61730). The modules have been rigorously tested for compliance with international standards and for endurance under extreme conditions, passing tests for ammonia, salt mist, sand and PID resistance.

The dimensions of the NB-JD540 are 2278 x 1134 mm, with a 30 mm aluminium frame. The front and back glass layers are each 2 mm thick and the panel weighs 32.5 kg in total.

The module is covered by a 30-year linear guarantee on the nominal power output and a 15-year product guarantee, for those within the EU and several other countries, starting from delivery of the panel to the final customer.

Andrew Lee, Sales Director EMEA, Sharp Energy Solutions Europe said: “We are pleased to expand our half-cut cell portfolio with a 540W bifacial module, offering our customers excellent performance with lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and higher return on investment for commercial and utility scale free-field projects. Our bifacial PV panels impress with additional power output from the modules back side and maximum performance to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, helping to combat climate change.”
